How do I know my electrics are safe?
ELECTRICAL SAFETY is essential to ensure safe operating standards for any property or appliance that uses electricity.
Sparks offer several options for electrical safety checks and wiring surveys on Spanish properties. Our surveys range from a basic safety check to a full Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR). An electromagnetic field (EMF) assessment is also available for testing the effects of 5G and non-ionizing radiation devices.
A basic ELECTRICAL SAFETY CHECK is a visual/part-test inspection covering the general condition of the wiring. We check the Consumer Unit, the RCD safety device and the earthing. We recommend periodically carrying out this type of survey annually.
A periodic test and inspection for an ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION CONDITION REPORT (EICR) is the only sure method to thoroughly check the complete installation of a property. It is carried out using specialised test instruments, and the results are compiled into a full report along with any recommendations. In accordance with electrical regulations an EICR should be carried out on domestic dwellings every 10 years.

An EMF SURVEY is an assessment of Dirty Electricity, Magnetic & Electric Fields and Radio Frequency Radiation. This type of survey is for people who suffer health effects from Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity (EHS), aka Microwave Syndrome. Symptoms include brain tumours, headaches, nausea, depression, sleep difficulties, concentration problems, memory loss, cancer risks, Tinnitus. Negative EMF health effects can range from minimal to profound.
We also offer a HOME ENERGY AUDIT where your electrical consumption is evaluated using power measuring equipment with the aim to suggest the best ways to improve energy efficiency for heating and cooling the property. We will also recommend and arrange for you to be transferred on to the cheapest Iberdrola tariff available on the market, the PVPC TARRIF (and btw, avoid the “marketeers” at Iberdrola pop up stands and Iberdrola high street points).
PORTABLE APPLIANCE TESTING (PAT) is especially recommended for holiday and long-term lets where any electrical equipment that has the potential to cause injury to tenants is maintained in a safe condition. We recommend periodic PAT testing annually.
